President Speak - January 2008
Optimism in U.P. Industry (Jan-08)
While being the harbinger of all that is fresh and new and innovative, the month of December brought a lot of activities for IIA-both at Central and the Chapter levels. The visits of the Chief Secretary, U.P. and Principal Secretary, SSI & Export Promotion to IIA Central office at Gomti Nagar were marked by their apparent interest in most of our activities especially the industrial survey of MSMEs which is unique to the state as no other association/agency/organization of the state has taken such an initiative so far.
All MSME readers of this newsletter are requested to participate in the survey and circulate the information in their circle so as to enable us to compile a truly representative data for the MSMEs (visit: http://iiaonline.in/important /online_ survey.php).
Both the above Govt dignitaries have also assured to seriously consider IIA's demand for a separate policy for MSME, it seems our persistent effort for the above will bear fruits in not so distant a future.
IIA represented exporters' various banking related problems of the exporters in the State Level Bankers Committee(SLBC) for export promotion and gave several recommendations for improvement of banking procedures. You will read about it in the following pages and in case you have any such problem, please do e-mail it to us.
Agra Chapter has sent us a really interesting and comprehensive report on their activities this month. Their contribution to an important social cause deserves to be applauded; Rampur , Meerut & Najibabad Chapters in view of VAT coming to the state in Jan, held the much needed meetings and discussions with the Trade Tax department. I hope that all other chapters will also send us good coverage of significant developments in their areas which we would be pleased to publish and also display on the web site, please visit http://iiaonline.in/important/chapterActivity.php & http://iiaonline.in/important/media_chapters.php.
As is known by all the members, IIA had given several recommendations to the government for the improvement in VAT system and it is heartening to note that most of these have been accepted and many more are due for consideration. We shall talk about it next month. I am hopeful of a better future for U.P. industry now with the present Govt giving due importance to industry-relevant issues and problems.
